Hi,
I'm a man who forsook Evangelical Christianity after over 2 decades of adult involvement. My first marriage failed largely due to many of the things that the apology from CBMW demands. One big problem is that most men are "wounded" themselves and therefore cannot nurture nor respect others, especially women in any sort of a healthy way. The literalist presentation of the Bible promotes the draconian Fundamental/Evangelical sub-culture that creates so much fear and self-loathing in both men and women.

Believe me, MEN need to reclaim their personal identity and humanity from the "death grip" of Bible fundamentalism as well. Personally, I'm no longer persuaded and certainly not intimidated by Biblical/spiritual rhetoric. For a religion that promises so much peace and preaches that God loves "unconditionally", Fundamentalist Christianity consistently delivers so little of it.

Let's learn to love ourselves first so we can take back who we really our as individuals. Only then will be free to love another. My wife of 13 years and I were once in high-control Evangelical Sect. We got out 6 years ago and are now pursing our individual dreams, yet happier together than ever without church.

Do you know what the real truth of the whole issue is?

The CBMW are idolaters. Yes, you heard me.

You're quarreling with IDOLATERS. They're not going to listen to you! "Ephraim is joined to his idols...let him be." It would be a much *better* strategy to go warn the myriads of young people who are going to be taken in by this to STAY AWAY, THAT THIS IS IDOLATRY AND HERESY.

These "believers" have decided to elevate gender into a "God..."

It's THEIR "God"!

They can't face the fact that the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob is also the God of eunuchs---some of whom chose to *become* eunuchs to pursue the Kingdom of Heaven. These idolators, these Pharisees, would spit at a Carpenter's Son Who over 2,000 years ago said, (paraphrasing), "Jerusalem, Jerusalem! How I longed to take you under My wings as a mother hen does her chicks, but you would not~!" They would spit at this Son, call him a "sissy" and accuse Him of being wimpy, and crucify Him---notwithstanding all their denials. They can't face the fact that the Man Who overturned the moneychangers' tables and called the Pharisees out on a regular basis was also meek, mild, and like a lamb led to the slaughter when His Hour arrived. NO, they're MUCH MORE interested in participating in Neanderthal pagan cave-dwelling "masculinity" than they are picking up their Cross and following Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.

They claim to love their wives sacrificially as Christ does the Church---blatantly ignoring the torment they inflict, or even deliberately making their wives go up on the Cross instead of themselves!

Female Christians: the days are evil. Perhaps I'm advocating something that St. Paul would never have dared to insist on, but I think we women believers need to accept the hard, cold truth: the institution of marriage has fallen FOR GOOD and is way too dangerous to our faith and watchfulness to participate in: the days are evil, the Antichrist is just around the corner, and there is too much apostasy in the Church---thanks in part to organizations like CBMW---to trust that ANY marriage made nowadays will last. Plus, Our Lord and Savior is coming back VERY shortly. Women believers, stay single, ***unless you know beyond the shadow of a doubt that the Holy Spirit is ordering you to get married.*** Otherwise, stay away: it's too dangerous, and the hour way too late...

You know, I'm just tired of this. So tired. Women fought like animals in the 60s, 70s, and 80s for equality and to be viewed as human beings, and THIS is what's happening??? Theocrats getting together and deciding that there's a pink and a blue track for salvation??? What on earth is going on here?

I can't ascribe this to biology...this country has had too long a history of ongoing feminist struggle, although it went on by different names (the first Seneca Falls convention, the women's suffrage movement, the Temperance movement--a misguided effort to control domestic violence by outlawing alcohol). BUT THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A BACKSLIDING OF WOMEN'S RIGHTS IN THIS COUNTRY AS WHAT WE ARE SEEING NOW...

The only thing I can GENUINELY think of is that moneyed interests have combined with virulently rightwing theocratic elements to wage a dirty covert war against women's rights. From what I can tell, more than a fair number of them are Christian Reconstructionists---the American Taliban. "Handmaid's Tale," anyone?

May the Lord Jesus Christ come back SOON and put an end to this agony. What an abomination this utter heresy is!

The Baptist Associated Press published an article about the Demand for an Apology:
http://www.abpnews.com/content/view/5370/53/

And for another perspective on the conference, Waneta Dawn (author of "Behind the Hedge, a novel about her experience of domestic abuse) wrote about it on Submission Tyranny: http://submissiontyranny.blogspot.com/
