No, there is no evidence to support this. Sexual orientation is purely genetic. A person could perhaps be bisexual and choose only to acknowledge his or her attraction to the opposite sex, or choose to entirely repress his or her attractions. This is where the Christian conversion therapy comes from. This ‘therapy’ is rejected by the American Psychological Association as well as ALL other credible organizations. There is a direct link between conversion therapy and suicide.

Actually, there is plenty of evidence that conscious sexual orientation can be modulated. Not terribly PC but it does happen. Let’s not foist another burden on the abused, not that homosexuality is necessarily a burden, but sexual confusion stemming from abuse is.

I want to caution that your daughters’ sexual orientations are probably NOT just a reaction to your marriage. They are most likely inborn, and something that should be respected and cherished along with the rest of them–NOT symptoms of the problems with how they were raised.

Just a lovely, lovely post.

I wish I could have a do-over on the first couple of kids, too, and your honest recollections and insights are a real gift. I tried so hard to mother my first daughter PERFECTLY. Of course, she is the one that still needs the most help navigating the rest of her journey to adulthood. (She also not-so-secretly thinks I spoil the others!)
